The activity of Nordic Walking in a group, performed outdoors in nature, is also used by patients in psychiatric hospitals. Various forms of walking promote the release of happiness hormones, such as serotonin and endorphins. A study conducted at the University of Wisconsin measured the psychological profiles of adult women before and after 12 weeks of walking with poles. This study concluded that regular use of Nordic Walking techniques showed significant improvement in areas such as depression, anger, vitality, fatigue, overall mood disturbances, and overall physical well-being compared to walking without poles. The use of both arms and legs, working in opposition, stimulates a greater number of nerves and muscles, creating multiple rhythmic and calming movements.
